Picture books are beautiful in so many ways—the warmth and intimacy that surround story times, the artful language, the special way they spark a child’s learning of larger concepts, the richly imagined worlds that encourage creative thought, and the way they make children (and even grown-ups) smile. So many picture books are truly works of art—philosophical, funny, and beautiful in every way.
The Beauty of Picture Books Blog features contributions from authors, illustrators, reading specialists, teachers, book industry professionals, poets, parents, and anyone with something special to say about the beauty of picture books. We will also be happy to share contributions from children.
The Beauty of Picture Books Blog is a year-round celebration of picture books. Stop by any time to join the celebration and read ongoing posts from fascinating contributors about the beauty of picture books.
We wish you a bright, colorful, creative day! :)
UPDATES. :)
The seeds of this blog began shortly before this first blog post. The earliest post began with a suggestion of a week-long celebration of picture books, posted October 9, 2010: Let's Celebrate National Picture Book Week! (This first post was originally posted on a Website dedicated to the idea of a Picture Book Week before the bigger and better idea of Picture Book Month was introduced.) (Little Bear and I were thrilled to see November dedicated as Picture Book Month and celebrated with daily bloggers and themes!) To read the full story of the inspiration behind our original picture book week idea and The Beauty of Picture Books blog, read The National Picture Book Week Story. Also, check out our Celebrate page for more on picture book celebrations and a link to the fabulous Picture Book Month website!
Though we closed The Beauty of Picture Books blog in 2016, we're keeping the website and blog online and hope that visitors will continue to enjoy the many wonderful contributions we've shared from authors, illustrators, teachers, parents, grandparents, and even a few characters. :)
